Deepak Chopra details 7 spiritual laws to raise kids in a spiritual way. Following these laws could help raise happy, creative, fulfilled, successful kids.

The deepest nurturing a parent can give his child is spiritual nurturing. Deepak Chopra, in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents, says that its important to keep the spiritual laws in mind, to raise successful and fulfilled children.

First Three Spiritual Laws for Parents

The first three laws for parenting as described by Chopra are to help children understand that

  1. Everything is possible;
  2. If you want something, give it; and
  3. When you make a choice, you change the future.

The first three laws are discussed in detail in the article, Deepak Chopra’s Spiritual Laws of Success for Parents.

Fourth Law: Don't say No - Go with the Flow

Going with the flow can be practiced by finding something playful in seemingly mundane tasks.

This law can also be termed as the law of least effort. The emphasis is on playing, enjoying and relaxing instead of struggling or straining. The child understands that allowing life’s gifts to come to us, usually requires the least effort.

Fifth Law: Every time you wish or want, you change the future

The power of intention forms the gist of the fifth law. This law helps children understand what it is, to set goals, release them and achieve them. Every week, the child’s intentions and desires are listed. The child is encouraged to be as specific as possible. This is not an attempt for children to create a list for Santa Claus, but to understand that desires take time to fructify.

Releasing desires to the universe is one way to achieve results efficiently. This can be achieved by turning one's focus to the present moment.

Sixth Law: Enjoy the journey

In a society that places a lot of importance on wins and losses, the child understands that real success is in enjoying the journey and approaching life with a certain degree of detached involvement. Enjoying the journey also means that one does not need to know all the answers or win every game or argument to be happy.

Seventh Law: You are here for a reason

As every child is unique, the parent can help the child unfold his purpose by asking, “Where are you right now?”. The child also learns to see the big picture by including service to others as an important ingredient of a fulfilled life.

Chopra emphasizes that spiritual laws are immutable and that all the laws of parenting are aimed at restoration of innocence. Innocence is the knowledge that life on earth is a journey of soul-making.
